Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about therapy and booking.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is a chance for us to understand what’s bringing you to therapy and what you’d like to get from it. We’ll go at your pace, and there’s no pressure to share more than you feel comfortable with.
How do I know which service to choose?
If you’re unsure, booking a consultation is a good place to start. We can talk through your needs and decide what feels most helpful.
What happens during the consultation call?
The consultation is a relaxed, informal conversation where we can talk about what’s bringing you to therapy and what you’re looking for. It’s also a chance for you to ask any questions and get a sense of how I work.
There’s no pressure to commit to anything. If it feels like a good fit, we can look at next steps together.
What happens after I book a session?
Once we’ve agreed to work together, you’ll receive an onboarding email with everything you need to get started.
This includes a contract outlining how we’ll work together, as well as your session details. If you’re attending in person, you’ll receive a calendar invitation. For online sessions, a secure Zoom link will be provided.
You’ll also be invited to complete a short intake form before your first session. This helps us make the most of our time together and reduces the need for admin during the session itself.
What happens in a single session?
A single session is a focused, extended session where we work in depth on a specific issue or question you’d like support with.
At the start, we’ll clarify what you’d like to focus on and what would feel helpful to leave with. During the session, we’ll explore things at your pace, with space to reflect, gain insight, and consider practical ways forward.
There’s no expectation to continue beyond the session, but if you decide you’d like further support, we can discuss options at the end.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes, I offer both online and in-person sessions. Online sessions are held via a secure video platform.
How long are sessions?
Most sessions are 50 minutes. Single-session therapy is longer and designed as a focused, one-off session.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies depending on your therapy goals. Some people come for short-term work, while others may need longer-term therapy. We can review this together as we go.
Is everything confidential?
Yes. What you share in therapy is kept confidential, with a few legal exceptions which I can explain if needed.
What is your cancellation policy?
I ask for a minimum of 72 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment.
Sessions cancelled with less than 72 hours’ notice will be charged at the full fee. This allows time to offer the appointment to someone else who may be waiting.
If you need to reschedule, appointments should be moved within the same week. Changes outside of this may be considered a cancellation and charged accordingly.
Do I need a referral?
No referral is needed. You can book directly through the website or contact me by phone on 07404 012111.
